William Mival 1959

William Mival is Head of Composition at the Royal College of Music in London. Born in St Asaph and a native of Rhyl, North Wales, he was a student of Anthony Milner at the RCM, Robert Saxton and York Höller. His career has been varied, including extensive teaching, writing and broadcasting across BBC media.

 

On the Ringstreet was first performed by the BBCSO under Pascal Rophé in 1996. Further successes include Tristan-still, a BBC commission first performed at the Barbican Hall in London under the conductor Donald Runnicles and short listed for a British Composer Award; several commissions for the Welsh Chamber Orchestra and singers Natasha Marsh and Jeremy Huw Williams; music for the harpsichordist and virginalist Sophie Yates, for pianists Andrew Ball and Stephen Gutman and works for the The Belcea String Quartet, the Sydney Festival, the Choirs of Salisbury Cathedral and the RCM New Perspectives Ensemble.
