A work for piano trio by Ashley John Long has been selected by the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) to represent Wales at next year's World New Music Days. The piece will be performed as part of the ISCM's festival which takes place in the Portugal between 30 May and 7 June 2025.

Long commented, "I am absolutely delighted that my piece Beyond the Haze of Winter's Edge has been selected to be performed at ISCM World Music Days 2025 in Portugal. The composition, scored for piano trio, was inspired by a dream in which I was walking through a desolate winter landscape and is an essentially meditative piece that is disrupted by violent outbursts.

I can't wait to hear it performed in such a beautiful setting and I am immensely grateful to Tŷ Cerdd and ISCM for the opportunity to represent Wales at this remarkable festival."

Long was one of six composers whose work was selected by the Welsh panel to go before the international jury. The five other artists were:

Ethan Davies: More Is Less (2023) (ISCM category: Small-size audio/video installation)

Nathan James Dearden: Everything about us (2022) for SATB choir (ISCM category: Youth choir)

Joseph Graydon: Antiquities (2023-24) for solo strings, piano & percussion (ISCM category: Large ensemble – Remix Ensemble Casa da Música)

Andrew Lewis: In Memory (2021) for orchestra & electronics (ISCM category: Orchestra – Porto Symphony Orchestra)

Sarah Lianne Lewis: Sunflowers in Autumn (2019) open instrumentation, consisting of winds and/or brass instruments, and strings (ISCM category: Medium ensemble)
