Carlijn Metselaar (1989- ) 

Cyfansoddwraig o’r Iseldiroedd yw Carlijn Metselaar sy’n byw yng Nghaerdydd. Yn ddiweddar enillodd Wobr Talent Ifanc gan y Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds i ddechrau doethuriaeth mewn Cyfansoddi ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd. Astudiodd Carlijn gyfansoddi, cerddoleg ac arwain corawl yn Utrecht yn yr Iseldiroedd. Yn 2017, cwblhaodd radd ôl-raddedig mewn cyfansoddi gyda rhagoriaeth yn CBCDC.

 

Yn 2016, derbyniodd Carlijn grant cyfansoddi ar gyfer ei hopera ‘Martine&Martinus’ a berfformiwyd yng Nghadeirlan Utrecht. Perfformiwyd ei miniatur cerddorfaol ‘Leap’ gan Gerddorfa Genedlaethol Gymreig y BBC fel rhan o Cyfansoddi Cymru. Yn ddiweddar comisiynodd Classical Movements ‘Well, Actually’, cân gabaret am ‘ddynsbonio’ (mansplaining) i Ensemble Lleisiol Olga.

 

Ymhlith cyfansoddiadau newydd ceir y pumawd pres ‘Roof’ i Academi Pres Siambr Stockholm a chomisiwn i UPROAR, ensemble cerddoriaeth gyfoes newydd Cymru. Mae Carlijn yn cymryd rhan yng Nghynllun Cyfansoddwyr Ifainc yr LPO 2018-2019 dan arweiniad James MacMillan.

Carlijn Metselaar is a Dutch composer based in Cardiff. Her work includes opera, music theatre and ballet as well as music for choirs and chamber ensembles.

 

She is a participant in the LPO Young Composers Scheme 2018-19, mentored by James MacMillan. She recently composed ‘Octet’ for Berkeley Ensemble as part of Ty Cerdd's CoDI CHAMBER scheme. Her piece 'Night Parade of Monsters' was commissioned by UPROAR: New Music Ensemble, led by Michael Rafferty. Carlijn is currently Composer in Residence with WNO Youth Opera and wrote ‘Blackout’, a short opera for choir, 2 percussion, bass clarinet and piano, performed in April 2019.

Recent compositions include Leap, an orchestral miniature performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. She also wrote 'Well, Actually', a cabaret song about mansplaining commissioned by Musical Movements for Olga Vocal Ensemble.


Her opera 'Martine&Martinus' was performed at the Dom Cathedral of Utrecht in 2016, for which she received a grant from the Dutch Performing Arts Fund.


Carlijn won a Young Talent Award from the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds as well as a scholarship for a PhD in Composition at Cardiff University from October 2018.
