Composition Prize 2014

Tŷ Cerdd in partnership with Welsh National Opera and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama

This inaugural competition celebrates the 10 piece ensemble made famous by Phillip Jones and his pioneering work in developing chamber music for brass.

The prize will be £1,000 and will be awarded at a concert during which the winning work will be chosen. The concert will consist of short-listed works drawn up by the adjudicating panel and will be given at the Dora Stoutzker Hall, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama during the Welsh National Opera Residency in December, 2014.

All entries should be submitted to Tŷ Cerdd at the Wales Millennium Centre (www.tycerdd.org) by October 30, 2014. Welsh composers under the age of 30 (those who were born in Wales and received their secondary education in Wales, or composers who were born elsewhere but received their secondary education in Wales) on that date are eligible to enter.

The submitted works should be sent to Tŷ Cerdd, Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, CF10 5AL

in hard copy and in envelopes marked:

The submission should include legible scores and parts and be for:

4 trumpets; 1 french horn; 4 trombones; 1 tuba

The duration of the music should be around 10 minutes. The music may be written in more than one movement.

The adjudicating panel will be drawn from Tŷ Cerdd, Welsh National Opera and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
