Tŷ Cerdd welcomes new chair

Date:06 October 2017

Steph Power 002

Tŷ Cerdd’s new Chair, Steph Power, is a composer, writer and former guitarist and percussionist. Steph’s life and work have been embedded in Wales for almost 25 years: she is a contributing editor to Wales Arts Review, and a critic for the Independent among other publications. Her music is mostly chamber in scale, with 2017 having seen a new trio premiered at the Vale of Glamorgan Festival. Passionate about outreach and education, Steph has conducted and participated in many composition and songwriting workshops, including with ensembles such as Gemini, Icebreaker and Jane's Minstrels, and she enjoys working with young people as an examiner for Trinity College, London. She understands well the importance of grass-roots community music-making as well as the need to promote excellence on international platforms.

Entering her role, Steph said: "I’m so honoured to have been appointed to the role of Tŷ Cerdd Chair, and am excited to be able to help steer the organisation as it develops its work supporting composers and performers at all levels, and in helping communities to connect with the music of Wales."

Alongside Steph, distinguished Welsh music figure and Tŷ Cerdd trustee Gillian Green MBE has stepped up to take on the role of Vice-chair. Gillian’s knowledge and experience, as well as her important role as our Welsh-speaking figurehead, will be invaluable to the organisation.
